Meet the Chef: Alberto Alvarez
Chef Alberto Alvarez has been cooking for as long as he can remember, first learning from his mother and grandmother back in his home country of Spain. Since then, he’s cooked professionally all over the world, with over 20 years of experience with Spanish, Italian, French, and Portuguese cooking. We’re super proud to announce that he’s one of the newest members of the Eat In Chef team in New York City!

What’s your name?
Where will you be cooking for Eat In Chef?
The greater New York City area.
Tell us about your professional cooking experience.
I’ve been cooking professionally for over 20 years. I’ve worked in kitchens all over my home country of Spain, England, and now in the United States. In 2007, I started my own catering company after serving as the private chef for a popular Spanish music group. The events we serviced ranged from intimate dinner parties in people’s homes to larger events, such as weddings. During this time, I was working simultaneously in schools. It was great to know I could have a positive impact on the students through the food I prepared for them.
Why did you want to work with Eat In Chef?
When I got married, my wife and I were gifted a private chef dinner at our home. I have such a great memory of that experience. I thought working with Eat In Chef would be a perfect way for me to give others that same fun experience while also building my career in my new (extended) community.
What inspired your love for food and cooking? Why is food important to you?
I’ve been cooking as long as I can remember. Both my mother and maternal grandmother are fabulous chefs, and they’ve taught me everything I know… other than what I learned in culinary school, of course!
Do you have a signature dish? If so, why do you think this dish best represents you?
I’m trained in international cuisine, but no doubt my specialty dishes are the ones I bring to the US from Spain — Spanish omelette, paella, croquettes, etc.
How do you think diners can use Eat In Chef to improve their wellness and overall quality of life?
Eat In Chef gives diners a chance to eat healthy, creative, restaurant-quality dishes in the comfort of their own home. What could be better than that?
What’s your favorite food?
When you’re not cooking for others, where do you like to eat?
Honestly, if I could pick anywhere in the world, I’d choose my mother’s kitchen. Just don’t tell my wife I said that!
What do you like to do in your free time?
I’m an avid marathon and ultra-marathon runner. I also love to read, and I probably spend too much time on Twitter!
