What’s your name?
Where will you be cooking for Eat In Chef?
I’m looking forward to having a lot of fun with our customers in private homes and venues throughout the tri-state (NY/NJ/CT) area!
Tell us about your professional cooking experience.
I started cooking when I was 15 years old, at a hotel near Berlin, Germany. I attended the Culinary Apprentice Program in Germany, which is very different from training in the US. In Germany, you have a dual learning experience, in which you work the practical part in a commercial kitchen, like a restaurant or hotel, and then attend school every three weeks for one week. After three years and a big exam in theory and practice, you get your bachelor’s degree in culinary arts. I grew up with French, German, and Mediterranean cuisine. After the apprenticeship, I worked one year in Berlin with a TV chef at his restaurant. I traveled the world and cooked on a river cruise ship in Europe, worked as an Executive Chef in the Swiss Alps, worked in Cyprus and Austria, and came to the US five years ago. Upon coming to the US, I first worked as a Sous Chef in a Country Club in Summit, NJ. In 2014, I opened my own business, “Chef Sebastian”, which is a private chef and event cooking company. I also work full time for Flik Hospitalty at a private school on the Upper East Side in Manhattan.
Why did you want to work with Eat In Chef?
I love entertaining people with my food and knowledge of it, and enjoy sharing it with everyone. I believe Eat in Chef can help me to connect with the people who appreciate our passion.
What inspired your love for food and cooking? Why is food important to you?
My main inspiration is my mom. She is the best chef ever, even though she is not a professional. Food is the base of our life, so you can only love it, right ?
How do you think diners can use Eat In Chef to improve their wellness and overall quality of life?
Diners can ask the chefs so many questions about food and how to make it. They will see how to prepare an easy and healthy meal, and that it doesn’t need to be complicated. I’ve found that clients like to know about my background, where I get my ingredients from, and effective techniques.
What’s your favorite food?
I love food that is made with good products and cooked with love. You can tell a meal is cooked with love if it is presented and seasoned nicely.
When you’re not cooking for others, where do you like to eat?
I mostly enjoy my own cooking since I think restaurant prices are often overpriced. However, I do like a small Mexican restaurant here in Queens! The taste is consistent, the price is right, and it’s authentic.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I am a big Bayern Munich (soccer team) supporter and I enjoy working in my yard.
